Map: Pass Two and Thumbnails


So I shortened up my map a bit and changed the flow to the level.
 
These are my thumbnails, the last three show the changes to the course on the second lap.

Scifi Raceway: Obey Ashtar



Into Chaos

The story of my level:

The level is a station in orbit around a large planet. Inside it is like a city headed by elected Chairman of the inter galactic federation Ashtar. As shown in the previous post, I want my city to resemble the one in Minority report and I want it to be under a honeycomb like dome allowing the citizens to look out at the galaxy. This community is a center for genetic research on the planet below.

You are an important member of the crew summoned to Chairman Ashtar’s quarters (The bot will tell you to follow the green lights). You are racing there due to urgent news. On the way there the urgent news becomes very apparent. All citizens are told to go to their assigned escape pods. You now follow the red arrows.

 (Another possible story to do with this set up is that you are infiltrating this station to help bring it down, which would allows stunts that deal with security traps and cops)

NEW IDEA: (I'll be doing some more drawing because I suddenly had this idea and I think I just got married to it...)
You're not a reptilian... and you are going in to destroy the ship (alternate route that is open for only the first lap where you must run into the ships power core, which will set off the alarms and start the chaos?) And everyone else on the ship is reptilian (which makes for a lot of fun signs and posters). You're reason? They are in orbit around your home planet and do genetic research on your people.

New things this would allow that are not yet in the sketches below?

-cop chases
-sirens
-security traps
-announcements

Disaster Events?

-The moon, or something else in orbit, is crashing into the station
-The planet below is fighting back and is shooting or crashing ships into the space station.
-meteor shower? (nah)


Things that happen:

-Helicopter crashes into the road and breaks the mechanism holding panels in place and creating guard rails…guard rails disappear
-Walls explode and open a new track through a lab where tanks fall and crush you. (The next lap there will be a speed reducing fluid left over from the tanks)
-The hall with the escape pods breaks apart and you have to jump from section to section on the track.
-Each lap around will change the track by opening new paths and blocking others.

Things I want:

-Ashtar and other propaganda billboards. (they can fall and make ramps!)
-The racetrack will be above the city on transparent paneling.
-Midday setting. 




These are a few color schemes I am thinking about. I know that I want to do a painting and combine a few of the Hubble telescope images for my skybox, and depending on what I come up with for that I will pick a color pattern that compliments it. 

I know that I want a lot of contrast with very light color set against near black shades.

These are a few sketches I did a week ago. They aren't very good but I figured I would throw them up.


This is my idea for my track. Of course this is the whole track. I want the player to start in the dome on a transparent road above/through the city where I plan to have a lot of billboards with propaganda on them. 


So at one point in the level I am going to have a helicopter crashing into the mechanism that creates/controls the guardrails (they are like holograms). I'm going to figure out the design for that soon. 

 This is the last stunt before the track repeats. The track has broken apart and you are in space and have to hop from piece to piece, get onto the large ramp and bust through the front of a glass building and back onto the road.

Crash Bandicoot Team Racing: Polar Plunge

The section is 25-28 seconds in.
Polar Pass: Moving obstacles, widening/ narrowing of track, separated jumps.

Other levels in this game that have cool stunts are:

Crash Cove: warp pads, ramps, slowing water/fluid
Mystery Caves: Jumps, bounces
Sewer Speedway: Diverging paths, secret paths, bouncing barrels
Cocoa Park: Tunnel
Tiger Temple: Hills, Ramps, Sideways shooting flames
Rampage Ruins: explosives to dodge
Blizzard Bluff: Short cuts, slippery areas
Dragon Mines: spiral track

Alice Return to Madness: Cranking Up and Pressing Down


Seconds 1:14-1:30, 1:50, 7:05-08, 7:19-7:30
Because this is a factory level there are a lot of different ways to smash the players
There is a room where the whole ceiling smashes you, but in sections that are in a pattern

I like the look of both the city and the layout of the track.  The best being the 90 degree drop, I might consider having a steep drop like that in my level. 


I was considering putting a dome over a city in my level so the player can look out and see space.
